Dr. Steve Bende, President and CEO

Dr. Steve Bende has served as Bacilligen’s President and CEO since the Company’s founding in 2006. Before joining Bacilligen, Dr. Bende provided strategic science and business counsel, federal resource development assistance, and policy advocacy and lobbying, as well as market analysis and strategic communications services, to pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, research foundations and universities. Previously, Bende served as Vice President of Scientific Affairs at the Generic Pharmaceutical Association. Before joining GPhA, Bende worked in the Laboratory of Immunoregulation at NIAID/NIH studying the AIDS virus, and subsequently as an administrator, coordinated funding of AIDS vaccine research and development at the NIAID Division of AIDS. Bende served as Executive Secretary of the NIH AIDS Vaccine Research Committee which was assembled to advise NIH on HIV vaccine research strategy. While at NIH, Bende received seven Department of Health and Human Services awards for science management, including the NIH Director’s Award. Most recently, Dr. Bende served on three working groups of the State of Maryland Life Sciences Advisory Board: Capital Formation, Business Environment, and Early Stage & Pipeline Programs.
